Well a whip woulda been too silly. But duct tape? Oh heck yeah. Between that bag and his various pockets, Jay's likely got multi-tools, a flashlight, random screws, nuts, bolts, some wire, string, something to write with, a candy bar and of course duct tape. He might be an anthropologist, but I'm sure he was a scout as a kid. And this is another of those things about Jay the character that are based on our own Jay. He really could be depended upon to have whatever was needed in any situation.
I debated texturing the tape, but it seemed to need a bit of something to make it clear what it was. For the posters I've done more in terms of shine and highlights, but that was usually where it was curved and this is mostly straight lengths. I'm also feeling better about my statue shading and lighting. It's still sorta random and made up, but I've actually got a little Oscar replica I'm trying to use as a model.

I have all that in my backpack plus a couple bicycle spokes, bungee cords, luggage strap, a basketball net (makes a great mesh bag), first aid kit, a magnesium firestarter, and eating utensils (including chopsticks).
Oh yeah, and my duct tape is black… it’s a style choice.

I love all the designer colours of duct tape. But here I went with classic silver. And I’m not shocked at all that you are also well prepared.
