Panel 1:

As Alex and Walter get dragged outside by Fred, we see Philip having an interaction with Casey and Goobie-Doo.

PHILIP:

[To Casey]

What do you have there?

CASEY:

Like, Gooby-Doo and I think we found Heather’s phone on the beach. We were looking to give it back. Even though it looks all beat up and i’m not sure it still works.

Panel 2:

PHILIP:

[Takes the phone from Casey]

Fascinating. Why don’t I take care of that?

Panel 3:

Philip pulls out the 3D-VV from his pocket and hovers it up and down in front of the phone, giving it a scan and then looking at the 3D-VV to see the readings.

Panel 4:

PHILIP:

Come along, everyone. We’ve got a cove creep to catch!

ALEX:

Now where?!

One of my favourite abilities of the Doctor has always been his way of blowing past people's defenses with quick talk and sheer bewilderment. Here Philip lifts Heather's phone from our erstwhile beachcombers effortlessly, and nothing gets said, much like how he steamrolled the mayor on the last page.

And it's the return of the 3D-VV! First seen in Philip's first appearance in issue 13 of the mini-comic. It's his sonic screwdriver, a flexible tool that's been a collapsing screen and now a scanner. Points if you get the reference in the name. And kudos to Philip's facesake for the name originally.

"Come along everyone!" Ah, yes, the Fred call to action. It's really been fun playing Scooby Gang for this story.

We’re going back this week. Back in a retro sense, but also a bit of history. John MacLeod’s Space Kid is a throwback. And a self-aware one at that. If you enjoy 50?s science fiction, Astro Boy or rocket ships and ray guns, then you are gonna love Space Kid. The titular hero is as advertised. A sci-fi hero kid. A pre-teen saving the galaxy from pirate , robots and aliens. It’s one of those kid friendly stories that adults love as well.Read More

So an area I haven’t wandered into is webcomics doing what print comics have all sealed up. Superheroes. It’s a tough area, when you have a whole industry that is focused in on that one genre. You are putting yourself out there up against work that is done by very talented professionals who do this for a living. And anyone doing a superhero webcomic  is quite probably doing it with an eye to making the switchover to ACTUALLY drawing their favourite hero. It’s like an audition piece. On Sunday my walkabout took me to the Toronto Wizard World show. A bit barren, but I did stumble across a few new finds. My first was one I was aware of before attending, but pleasantly pleased to find and get a chance to chat with. Boum, or Samantha Leriche-Gionet is a 27-ish freelance filmmaker, animator and illustrator who lives and works in Montreal, Canada. She is also very friendly and seems to have really weird dreams.
